In this Science Lecture, Elizabeth Jamison presents her MS research which aims to support the management of globally rare northeastern pitch pine barrens in the face of two threats: mesophication and southern pine beetle. Her first chapter assesses the current status of pine barrens communities under different management regimes, while her second chapter presents a tool for reducing impacts of southern pine beetle. She ultimately explores whether pine barrens can be managed both to preserve historic ecological conditions and improve resilience to future threats.
