Our research with the New York State Museum reveals that blackpoll warblers, like this adult male captured earlier in the week, are traveling to the Pine Bush from Alaska and the NW Territories.

To learn more about when birds migrate, where they go and the paths they take, check out National Audubon Society's new BIRD MIGRATION EXPLORER .

The tool includes prairie warbler data collected in the Preserve.  Science like this is fun and helped establish the Albany Pine Bush as an Important Bird Area and a NYS Bird Conservation Area. Fire-managed pine barrens are providing essential habitat to breeding season, migratory and wintering birds.
